Gipsy Road

Gipsy Road is a long road that runs from Norwood High Street in the West and South Croxted Road, Dulwich Wood Park and Gipsy Hill in the East. Although not a main road it is served by the 322 bus route (Clapham Common to Crystal Palace) and it is used by a lot of vehicles as a cut through so can get quite busy.

There are two schools on the road Kingswood Primary School and the interim site for the new Elm Green Secondary School so it gets busy with parents picking up and dropping off their children at the start and end of the school day. Every morning during term time there is a lollipop man and woman manning the crossings near to the primary school, who are both really friendly and say hello to everyone as they pass.

The road has a real mixture of houses on it; low rise Local Authority blocks, Edwardian, Victorian and 1930's houses. There is also a converted Church that have become flats.

There are lots of shops and businesses at the Eastern end of Gipsy Road, making the parade a handy place to have locally as it is a bit of a walk to Crystal Palace or to West Norwood if you don't have a car and the 322 bus is not the most reliable. The parade is a bit scruffy at the moment and could probably do with a facelift but you will find a hairdressers, two chemists, a vet, an estate agents, shoe repair/key cutting shop, a tailors, dry cleaners, betting shop, nail salon, hardware store, fish and chip shop, laundrette, loft conversion business, chicken take-away, indian take-away, post office, newsagents, corner shop, four restaurants and an excellent pub (The Mansion). The number 3 bus also stops just up from the Parade at the roundabout.

There are also some other shops dotted about Gispy Road; a chinese take-away, pub and a newsagent near the junction with Salters Hill - where you also find Norwood Park. Further West there is a newsagents, another pub and a pizza delivery place.

Gipsy Road is a nice road to live on and the people seem friendly. Often a familiar face can be seen in the Mansion.
