Forsyte Crescent was built in 1934 on the site of a mansion called Hazelwood, an early 1860's house of such grandeur and luxury it was rumoured that the Prince of Wales (Edward VII) wanted to buy it. Hazelwood became derelict in the 1920's after being used by soldiers during and after WW1, although the lodge of Hazelwood survived for some time as 295 Church Road.
