Fitzroy Gardens

For me, the jewel in the Crystal Palace crown! Named after Captain Fitzroy - captain of The Beagle, the ship that took Darwin to the Galapagos; also meteorologist who pioneered accurate weather forecasting and had a sea area named after him in 2002; also Governor of New Zealand 1843-48. He's buried in All Saints Church at the end of Church Rd.

Fitzroy Gardens has plenty of character too for a road of sixties' townhouses (3-storey terraces). We were househunting in May when we first saw the house, and what sold it to us - apart from the pleasant, well-tended and convenient location - was the gorgeous blossom light streaming through the huge windows. This abundance of light gives the houses a very friendly, welcoming feel, which extends to the neighbourhood itself.

I'm biased for sure, but I've lived here 14 years (a newbie by some residents' standards!) and really feel I've come 'home' every time I swing in from the main road.
