PAUL BROWSE 'Paul is an outstanding guitar virtuoso, singer and songwriter!' (Icarus Club http://www.myspace.com/theicarusclub )
HEARTSSONG Ingrid Andrew and Lawrence Renee "Perched on stool, almost hidden under massive furry hat and guitar, the quizzical and endearing heartsong/ingrid spouts forth her own blend of music and poetry. Lyrically powerful, the words seem to have worked their way up from the very centre of mother earth through the roots of the trees along the branches and out into the cosmos in spasms of seasonal reflection and humanistic musings. Simple yet profound, the songs are delivered with drama and passion. A curiously contagious act' ~ (Kath Tait http://www.myspace.com/kathtait ) http://www.myspace.com/heartssong

Another intimate evening of Song, Music and Poetry upstairs at The Railway pub, bang next to Tulse Hill Station. There's always a great mix of talent from near and sometimes far, this month from as far as Denmark.
On Thursday 9th April at 8.30pm there are four acts covering a spectrum of styles and hosted by Ingrid, also known as Heartssong, programme below. You can find more info on her MySpace page http://www.myspace.com/heartssong (note double s in Heartssong). Or just come along and sample the pleasures.
Entrance is a snip at £3. The programme for April is:
Rosa's daughters
'Rosa’s Daughters are a harmony duo who love singing. Their repertoire covers Traditonal Engish songs,self-penned material through to contemporary singer/songwriters. Whatever catches their ears really. They play between them a variety of instruments including guitar, citterne, hungarian cittera, appalachian dulcimer and if the occasion arises......keyboards..plus a wide range of percussion .....'
Get a sense of their songs at http://www.myspace.com/rosa39sdaughters
Jude Cowan
'Jude's macabre and beautiful music and poetry has been compared to Marianne Faithful, P.J. Harvey, Nick Cave, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Cocteau Twins, Lee Hazlewood and Kate Bush. An eccentric English chanteuse, she draws on the decadent imagery of art history to fuel her peculiar craft. Wielding a satirical knife she slices open the flagging body of blues and folk traditions to tickle and amuse its still beating heart.'
Listen at http://www.myspace.com/judecowan
All the way from Denmark, singer songwriter of profound and very beautiful songs, passionate humanitarian and rescuer of fair maidens from fiery dragons:
Edward Mikalski
'My mother singing ...... that feeling that anything could be put right with a song. Skiffel bands ,rock and roll ....All the changes that where going on in the late 50s. But then came the 60s and the singer songwritters,
Donovan completely blew my mind away .This was the time i realized that you COULD sing your OWN songs .Of course there where ,and are many influences ,and always will be .Thats about it i think ...'

Ingrid Andrew, accompanied by Lawrence Renee on mandolin and mouth organ

On Thursday 14th May at 8:30pm there's another intimate evening of Song, Music and Poetry upstairs at The Railway pub, bang next to Tulse Hill Station. Enjoy the vibes, bar selection and food! There's always a great mix of talent from near and sometimes far, this month from as far as Brighton.
There are four acts covering a spectrum of styles and hosted by Ingrid, also known as Heartssong, programme below. You can find more info on her MySpace page http://www.myspace.com/heartssong (note double s in Heartssong). Or just come along and sample the pleasures.
Entrance is a snip at £3. The programme for May is:
Nik Barrell
Nik Barrell is a member of Brighton’s finest country-blues band, GinClub, but also plays acoustic sets of his intelligent self-penned songs, as well as collaborating with the likes of Sharon Lewis and Shoestrung. "Nik sings like he’s drawing on a thousand years of experience and time has just been suspended." (Second Sunday). "“Down-and-dirty hungover blues, Ray Davies style”. (Viva Lewis) http://www.myspace.com/nikbarrell
heartsssong
Likened to Marianne Faithful, Dory Previn and Nico ~ but verily she becometh more like herself ........
Ingrid Andrew does exactly what her "aka" (Heartssong) suggests - she sings beautiful songs straight from the heart ! 'Her three songs "Blue Blue Summer Sky", "A Nightingale Sings" and "They Spilled Her Blood" were absolutely brilliant and held us in rapt attention.' Andy from the Icarus Club http.www.myspace.com/theicarusclub Band website: http://www.icarusradio.co.uk
'You are like a lady Leonard Cohen' http://radiantappliance.org/
Accompanied by the soulful mandolin and mouth organ of Lawrence Renee ('A very gifted young man')
APACHE JOHN
http://www.myspace.com/apachejohn Website http://www.lemonrock.com/apachejohn
These guys have got mellow vibes by the bucket load, not to mention great songs, excellent musicianship and the kind of real togetherness that you rarely see in "live" music these days. Amazon Jan underpinned everything with a steady bassy beat on the Tubano whilst Apache John sang and played his own compositions. With Mike's weaving harmonica ducking in and out the three of them created a really full sound. There was some good banter too... before each song Apache John let us in on some of the ideas behind the writing... some good hippy stuff with an edge of hard reality thrown into the mix.
ACOUSTIC CLAMPDOWN
http://www.myspace.com/tyronethomasspace Exciting and energizing band!
All proceeds to: http://www.aldlife.org/ Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is a rare, inherited metabolic disorder. In this disorder, the fatty covering (myelin sheath)of nerve fibres in the brain is lost, and the adrenal gland degenerates, usually leading to progressive neurological disability and death. A good portrayal of the effects of ALD on both the victim and family is the film “Lorenzo’s Oil”. It accurately describes the deterioration of a young boy with the disorder and resultant problems. The film does intimate that a cure (Lorenzo’s Oil) was found. Unfortunately this is not the case for those already with symptoms, although the oil is now a recognised and hopefully preventative treatment for all boys under 6 with the gene who are not presenting symptoms. It is now also being tested as a preventative treatment for men with adrenomyeloneuropathy (AMN) and females with symptoms.

The Peryls Victorian Christmas Extraordinarium
Saturday December 12th 2009
The Peryls are going to put on a Victorian-style event with all sorts of stuff going on... actors, arm-wrestling, carol singers, cakes and of course some live music from us and one or two of our favourites.
We're taking over a place called Antenna Studios in Crystal Palace for the night, so we want to create a kind of other-wordly grotto where people can come in, wander round and see different things going on in the various rooms...it is going to be twice cool.
It would be great to see you there... if you're at all inclined towards fancy dress (you know who you are) please come down in Victorian costume... the more the merrier and it will help to get the Victorian vibe going!
