Essex Grove is a quiet small tree-lined residential street, adjoining Central Hill to the north and Troy Rd to the south. There are only around 15 buildings on the street, but most are converted Victorian townhouses, each now comprised of 3 or 4 single-level flats. Like many streets in the area, Essex Grove is on a steep slope from Central Hill down to the Troy Rd end. In the year that I have lived there I have got to know some of the neighbours, and generally found the street to be quiet and peaceful. Not being particularly near any shops, bars or restaurants there is little litter, evening noise or through traffic. Takes less than 10 minutes to walk to (the nearest) Gipsy Hill station, and slightly over 5 minutes to amble into the triangle. Parking is pretty easy. Norwood Rec is close by.
